Body-Based Grounding
What this is
Body-based grounding reconnects you with physical sensations, especially when you feel disconnected or overwhelmed.
When it helps
-
Dissociation
-
Trauma responses
-
Shutdown or freeze
-
Feeling “not in your body”
The technique
You gently bring awareness to where your body meets the environment.
Try this
-
Press your feet into the floor
-
Push your hands together
-
Notice where your body touches the chair
-
Slowly stretch or tense, then release
Move slowly and deliberately.
Important note
If focusing on the body feels unsafe, stop and try sensory grounding instead.
Your comfort comes first.
