What this is

Your window of tolerance is the emotional range where you can think, feel, and respond without being overwhelmed.


When it helps

  • Understanding shutdown or overwhelm

  • Explaining emotional reactions

  • Reducing self-blame


The technique

You notice whether you’re:

  • Within your window (regulated)

  • Above (anxious, panicked)

  • Below (numb, shut down)


Try this

  1. Ask: Where am I right now?

  2. If outside your window, use grounding first

  3. Return to problem-solving later

Being outside your window is not failure — it’s nervous system overload.
